Ottumwa Progress, Inc. (OPI) is
a non-profit development organization dedicated
to strengthening and revitalizing Ottumwa's
Central Business District (CBD). OPI works with a
broad based constituency including the City of
Ottumwa in its efforts to assist in existing business
and new business development.
OPI, in conjunction with
the City of Ottumwa, has developed a blueprint for progress
and we'll work with any organization or individual that
wants to grow and prosper with our community. The
City is a key player in the implementation of the blueprint
we have designed. The Blueprint, or Downtown Development
Guide outlines the vision of Downtown Ottumwa as "the
community and regional focus of commerce, culture, government
and social interaction." Ottumwa, Iowa is the regional
center for health care, education, retail and commerce,
and
Ottumwa's Central Business District is the hear of the
region.
OPI staff is available
to assist with projects throughout the community focusing
on retail, service and entertainment business development.The
organization stands ready to assist in new development,
redevelopment of existing structures, business startup
opportunities and more. OPI is a catalyst for change,
its leadership is committed to driving change to better
the community and the area quality of life. A key element of the Downtown Development Guide serving as our Blueprint
for Development is the First Step Project. This project has various
elements including streetscaping within the CBD and the development of
a 20,000 square foot office building in the heart of the downtown. The
building is currently occupied by Principal Financial Group Pension Business
Systems Office. Principal's 50 computer programmers and systems analysts
will fill the top floor of this new facility, bringing a stronger sense
of vitality to the area.
